Matt (aka Young Matt) is the owner of the Riverside Rottweilers. Having grown up in Chalfont, Pennsylvania he now lives in philadelphia for school. Outside of fantasy football, he's a full-time student at Drexel Universeity doing a 5-year Masters' program in Chemical Engineering.

The cool thing about Drexel is that you only have class for 6 months of the year, and the other 6 months you work in an entry level job. The employers in the area all know about our program, so when we get there we’re like actual employees, not just interns who get coffee and stuff. Last spring and summer I worked at Dow Chemical in Newark, DE, and I’ll be starting in April at Johnson & Johnson in Lititz, PA. Since we have this program, our University does condensed scheduling, so no spring or summer breaks, and all semesters are 10 weeks long (compared to 15 at most schools), so I’ve been really busy for a while now with homework and exams.
My family lives back home in Chalfont, my sister is away at college too. My #1 best bud is my dog Krimpet, but she’s back home so I don’t get to see her much.
Hobbies would include fantasy football, and occasionally sleep if I’m able to get homework done before sunrise. Nah, but for real I play a lot of basketball and soccer, used to play baseball too but it’s hard to play anymore unless you can find a league or something. I picked up golfing over last summer, going to try and play a lot once I get done with classes. I used to play a lot of Madden, finished top 15 in the national college tournament last year, but that was taking up a ton of time so I stopped playing. Also play a lot of daily fantasy, especially basketball and football (can’t really get into baseball, but I love going up to Williamsport to watch the LLWS every year).

What's something unusual about yourself?

I would love to run an alpaca farm when I retire. Just seems like such a great way to live, waking up early, tending to the farm, and doing stuff in the community during the evenings. I also would love to get involved coaching youth sports, just to work with the kids and teach them things about playing hard and the life lessons that come with it. Other than all that, just trying to get through college before I decide on anything past that.

Who is your favorite NFL team(s)?

So my favorite team is the Seattle Seahawks. No reason other than I just grew up watching them, loved playing with them in Madden and throwing them deep routes to Nate Burleson. 2005 was the first season I remember watching, when they lost in the Super Bowl vs. Pittsburgh, but ever since then I’ve been following them every year.
People always ask me why I don’t like the Eagles even though I’m from Philly. In reality, I love the Eagles too, I was out there partying on Broad St. when they won a couple weeks ago. I guess at the time I started following football, I would always listen to sports radio with my dad and hear all of the drama going on with the Eagles. I’m never one for drama, and liked rooting for the Seahawks as the underdog team. Of course, they weren’t underdogs anymore when my man John Schneider went out and drafted an entire team of all pros from like 2010 to 2012. But I’ll always be rooting for Philly as well, just not when they play the Seahawks.

Who is your least favorite NFL team(s)?

Least favorite team, I really don’t know maybe the Patriots. I feel like I’m obligated to mention the Cowboys here, but in reality their fans are just as dedicated as we are here in Philly so I kind of like that. I just don’t like those fan bases where people just casually follow the team and always enjoy success, never sticking with them through the rebuilding years. So probably Patriots for sure, since throughout my entire lifetime they’ve been good, also probably the 49ers but they’ve been bad ever since Sherm tipped that interception that crushed Harbaugh’s hopes and dreams of ever building a franchise so I’ve kinda laid off of them a bit.

What year did you start playing fantasy football?

Started playing in 2008 in a league with my Dad. Drafted DeAngelo Williams and rode that all the way to the Championship. Won the ship again in 2009, and would have gone three in a row if I didn’t switch out Nate Kaeding for Rob Bironas in 2010, costing us a win in the semis.

What do you like best about fantasy football?

I just love the analysis of it all, the time and thought it takes to construct a roster through trades, free agency, etc. I’m super competitive, and put a ton of time into looking into trades, managing contracts/extensions, things like that but the great part is being able to sit back on Sunday and just watch, knowing that anything can happen and that I’ll either be rewarded for all that work or that my entire team will get injured and I can be frustrated for the entire offseason (I’ll put my IR team up against anyone’s don’t @ me).

What is your biggest pet peeve about fantasy football?

Probably just being active and being as competitive as possible. I hate those leagues with my friends where someone will trade like Tom Brady for Derrick Carr just because they like the Raiders. Like, I get that fantasy is supposed to be fun and all but I think it’s more fun when everyone is super competitive and into it, like everyone here at RW.

What is your favorite fantasy football memory?

Fantasy memory: down 41 points, then Michael Vick vs. the Redskins on MNF happened.
Football memory: while the Hawks/Niners NFC Championship game or the Eagles super bowl are a close second, I have to go with Miracle at the Meadowlands 2. It was hype when DJax ran back that punt.

How many leagues do you play in each year?

I only play in 2-3 leagues per year. RW is my “main” league, then usually I’ll do a friends or a family league. Some of you might know I’m in a dynasty league I’m trying to get out of, since many owners are barely active and I don’t really like the commish. But I’m stuck in it since I lose a years deposit if I leave. Also theres daily fantasy, but I usually have 25-30 different lineups in play on any given week, so I’m always following my RW players first and foremost.

If you have changed the number of leagues you play in since joining Roster Wars, what is the change?

No change, since I’ve always been more of a daily fantasy player anyway.

How has your life changed during the years you've been part of RW?

Only been here since last May, found you guys while looking for a better dynasty league one night after work. So glad I’m a part of this. I’ve been here less than a year and already had a great time with the startup draft, meeting all of the owners, and just getting into random stuff like poker and cryptocurrency. It’s been great checking in on the site every day and looking forward to many years to come.

Matt has gone on since this interview to become a really great owner of the Roster Wars Minor League, contributing by providing content when his schedule allows it. Looking forward to many years to come.
